Description:
This Spanish bell pepper from Extremadura is a hand-produced, regional specialty. It gets its characteristic smoky flavor from smoking the still whole pods over oak fires. "Picante" means spicy and accurately describes the subtle spiciness of this bell pepper (3000 SHU). Its flavor characteristics make it particularly suitable for preparing stews, soups, sauces, potato dishes and omelets. Paprika de La Vera picante is typical ingredient of Spanish chorizo salami.

Usage:
Use the smoked paprika picante as you would regular paprika. When sautéing in a pan, be careful not to expose the paprika to high heat or it may acquire a bitter taste.

Known dishes:
Sofrito, chorizo sausages.
