Product information "Zhatar No. 2"
also: Za'atar, Za'tar
Description:
A spice blend especially popular in Syria and Jordan, used as a table condiment for grilled foods or eaten in the form of a dip with pita bread. In Arabic, the term za'tar is also used for thyme, oregano and savory.
Unlike our blend commonly used in Israel, the Lebanese version is blended in a much more complex way and has a rather sweet note. The sweet and nutty flavor of the blend goes very well with meatballs, kebabs and vegetables.
Usage:
Use as a sprinkle seasoning in quantities to taste. As a dip, mix with olive oil and dip freshly toasted pita bread. Alternatively, use the paste to coat the bread before toasting.
To prepare dukkah, gently toast desired nuts (almonds, pistachios, hazelnuts or a mixture thereof) in a pan and then coarsely chop. Mix in Zhatar No. 2 and use as a dip. Traditionally, this is done by dipping a flatbread in olive oil (argan oil also tastes good with it) and then dipping it in the dry mixture so that some of the mixture sticks to the bread.
Ingredients:
Sesame seeds, thyme, basil, savory, marjoram, sumac, salt, cumin, chili, cinnamon, coriander, fennel, chickpeas.
