Chakalaka is a South African tomato-based condiment sauce that is popular with bread and meat. The spicy-hot flavour of the mixture gives the sauce a typical note for the melting pot of South Africa.
In Northern and Central Europe, the blend is now also a popular ingredient for preparing dips based on crème fraîche, curd, tomato paste or ketchup.
To prepare the seasoning sauce, the mixture should be added in the last third. For 400g of tomatoes, a lightly heaped tablespoon is sufficient.
To prepare a dip, mix the same amount of the mixture with a little lukewarm water and allow to swell briefly. Then simply stir into the respective dairy product or ketchup.
Tomato, coriander, turmeric, mustard flour, chilli, pepper, cumin, fenugreek, chickpeas, garlic, celery seed, sea salt, cinnamon, carrots, parsnips, parsley, leek, onion, paprika.
