Description:
Basil seeds are used in Southeast Asia to prepare beverages and desserts. Primary use is to thicken liquid to achieve a creamy consistency. Basil seeds have a very subtle, nutty flavor.

In molecular cuisine, the small seeds are often used to make "alternative caviar". For this purpose, after swelling, the seeds are marinated with any seasoning sauce, often citrus-based.

Usage:
Swell basil seeds in water for a few minutes until they have a jelly-like consistency. Then process further.

Aroma/Taste:
Almost tasteless, slightly nutty.

Harmonizes with:
Kaffir lime leaves, lemongrass, ginger, galangal.
