In molecular cuisine, the small seeds are often used to make "alternative caviar". For this purpose, after swelling, the seeds are marinated with any seasoning sauce, often citrus-based.
Usage:
Swell basil seeds in water for a few minutes until they have a jelly-like consistency. Then process further.
Aroma/Taste:
Almost tasteless, slightly nutty.
Harmonizes with:
Kaffir lime leaves, lemongrass, ginger, galangal.
