Selimp pepper is a pepper-like spice used mostly in West and Central Africa. It was used as a substitute for pepper as early as the Middle Ages, but over time it disappeared completely from local cuisine.
Selimp pepper has a peppery-hot aroma and a bitter taste. It is mainly used for stews with meat and vegetables.
Usage:
Please note that the aroma is in the fruit walls and not in the seeds. Selimp pepper is difficult to grind. If you do want to try it, you should cut it into small pieces. Otherwise, simply cook with it and remove it from the dish before serving.
